Animate Earth
Deep ecology is an ecological philosophy that emphasizes the inherent worth of other beings, quite aside from their usefulness to humans. It recognizes the interdependent nature of human and non-human life as well as the central importance of ecosystems and natural processes. It is said to be deep because it asks fundamental philosophical questions about the impacts of humans as one part of the ecosphere. Its basis is a holistic view of the world as process. Its central insight is that the human species is a part of the Earth, not separate from it. The process of self-realisation leads a person to experiential understanding of this, because the more we expand the self to identify with "others" (people, animals, plants, ecosystems, biosphere), the more profoundly do we realize ourselves.
