The Politicization of Climate Science
Video Presentation
by Michael Mann
Dr. Michael Mann is at Penn State University where he holds joint positions in the Departments of Meteorology and Geosciences, and the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute. He was Lead Author on the Observed Climate Variability and Change chapter of the IPCC Third Scientific Assessment Report and was selected by Scientific American as one of the fifty leading visionaries in science and technology (2002). He shared the Nobel Peace Prize with other IPCC authors (2007) and has authored >140 peer-reviewed publications. His most recent book is The Hockey Stick and the Climate Wars: Dispatches from the Front Lines (2012).
In this 20 minute video presentation, Mann starts with a concise summary of the scientific consensus. He then describes recent attacks on scientists and science itself in the U.S. His own iconic finding, the "hockey stick" graph, was a prime target for corrupt politicians manufacturing doubt about climate science. The corporate war against climatology has been an attempt to chill scientific discourse through thinly-veiled "McCarrhyism". Mann quotes Edmund Burke: All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
