James Balog
Proof of Extreme Ice Loss
The Extreme Ice Survey is the most wide-ranging glacier study ever conducted using ground-based, real-time photography. EIS uses time-lapse photography, conventional photography, and video to document the rapid changes now occurring on the Earth's glacial ice. Seeing is believing: real-world visual evidence uniquely conveys the reality and immediacy of global warming to a worldwide audience. EIS is a voice for landscapes that would have no voice unless humans give them one.
Ecobuddhism comments: We first saw James Balog/EIS's outstanding filmwork at the Climate Conference in Copenhagen in March 2009, where it was displayed on large screens at the beginning of every plenary session. Everyone should reflect on this powerfully convincing evidence. Although words fail to fully describe the impact of these phenomena, a line of W.B.Yeats comes to mind: "A terrible beauty is born".
